Can This Marriage Be Saved - Working It Out

by Rex Freiberger

In the past a marriage was to last until death separated those who had been joined in the holy ritual of matrimony. Marriage used to actually have a meaning beyond the desire of spending some time with a person and people grew old together...for better or for worse. The can this marriage be saved question did not exist; no one went around asking how to save your marriage or how to make your spouse fall back in love with you.

It's sad when people have to wonder, "Can this marriage be saved?" Unfortunately, too many of these people got married because they were in lust. They weren't really in love, and once they're married they often start wondering if they ever even liked their spouse. The result is a plethora of very troubled marriages which have created a very lucrative business for the therapists, psychologists, and counselors who specialize in trying to save marriages. These relationship professionals will tell couples a resounding YES when asked if their marriage can be saved.

Can this marriage be saved? Yes, Work it out! Don't give up at the first bad situation, at the first sign of incompatibility. One of the easiest things to do to save your marriage is to simply walk away, take a big breath and try to approach every situation with a clear perspective. Calm down, marriage is a two way street and some compromises must be made if you want it to work out. No one can have everything they want, remember that both of you are worth the same.

Saving marriages has even become huge business; there are counselors, therapists, support networks and all sorts of services to help work through problems and differences newly weds might encounter. There are people who can help bring stability and understanding back into a relationship that might be otherwise doomed to failure.

Saving a marriage is beneficial to society. Keeping a marriage together can ensure that children are not traumatized by the separation or led into situations that require difficult and painful decisions. This prevents forcing a child not yet ready to handle this drama to choose between parents and their resources in event of a divorce. Kids from broken families are more likely to become single parents themselves, mimicking the lifestyle set forth by his own parents.

People need to see marriage for what it once was, a sacred holy union where two people have vowed to share their lives together, through thick or thin. You can't just hang up the towel every time you get bored. This isn't the way things should be. Can you save this marriage? Yes you can, if you are aware of the commitment you came into the relationship with, and you take the time to try.

In the old days, 'til death do us part" had a binding meaning and no one went around asking how to save marriage. Seems like those days are over, and people often find themselves asking "How to save my marriage?" You can save your marriage through an array of resources available to those willing to work things out, without going to the extreme of divorce. You shouldn't decide to end your marriage just because it isn't as exciting as it once was. To avoid ending your marriage you must understand that you are making a permanent commitment and be confident enough to stay and work things out.
